Long Days and Longer Lists - June

The sun sets in the northwest, and takes its sweet time sinking to the horizon.  It's true that these days with extended daylight are both a blessing and a curse to us.  We get up early with the sun and we know we can't clock out from the farm until the last rays fade in the evening.

What would we do without these long days, where the peak growth of many of our crops begins and the buffalo gnats come out to make us wonder why we spend so much time outdoors?  They balance out the long nights that come with living in the Northern Hemisphere during November, December and January.  It is then that we develop a different kind of weariness that comes with a thirst for light and warmth.  But, for now, we deal with those moments when we're just simply tired because we have been moving constantly.

As I write this, it is December and we're at the front end of the long dark that comes with this time of year.  Already I look at this picture with no small amount of envy, even though I am fully aware of the less appealing side the month of June brings with it.

Eventually, I realize that I have an affinity for each season and their different textures and atmospheres.  I am also fully aware of the struggles they bring and the warts they try to hide, even when I select a beautiful picture to represent that particular period of our orbit around the sun.
